About this subcontractor performance scorecard calculator

This free subcontractor performance scorecard rates a subcontractor across eight weighted categories. Safety (H&S), Quality, Programme / Reliability, Communication / Coordination, Commercial Behaviour, Documentation / Admin, Productivity, and Handover / Commissioning. And returns a single weighted score out of 5, a percentage, and a RAG rating with a recommended action. It is built for UK building-services engineers, main contractors and QA managers who need a quick, consistent way to assess trade packages such as pipework or ductwork. You log the subcontractor, package, project, assessor and period; each category is scored 1 (unacceptable) to 5 (excellent) with space for factual notes, and results can be copied, exported to CSV, printed to PDF or shared by link. Entries autosave locally in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server.

How the score is calculated

The overall rating is a weighted average: Σ(w·s) ÷ Σw, where each category score s (1–5) is multiplied by its weight w and divided by the total of the weights. Default weights put 20% each on Safety, Quality and Programme, 10% each on Communication, Commercial Behaviour and Documentation, and 5% each on Productivity and Handover, but every weight is editable to suit your QA framework, with a check that flags whether they sum to 100%. The weighted average is then banded into a RAG status: a score of 4 or above is GREEN (continue / preferred), 3 or above is AMBER (improvement plan needed), and below 3 is RED (escalate / consider replacement). The tool does not cite an external standard; thresholds and weights are intended to be adjusted to your own assurance process.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the category weights?

Yes. Each of the eight categories has an editable weight from 0 to 100%. The default split is 20% each for Safety, Quality and Programme, 10% each for Communication, Commercial Behaviour and Documentation, and 5% each for Productivity and Handover. A weight check shows whether your weights total 100%.

What do the GREEN, AMBER and RED ratings mean?

They band the weighted average out of 5. A score of 4 or more is GREEN (continue / preferred), 3 or more is AMBER (improvement plan needed), and below 3 is RED (escalate / consider replacement). These thresholds are a default and can be adjusted to match your QA framework.

Is my data saved or shared anywhere?

No. Scores, comments and assessment details autosave to your browser on that device only. There is no server. You can copy the summary, download a CSV, print to PDF, or generate a share link that carries only the meta fields and scores (not the comments) for another assessor to view.
